Decks

Gaining that extra living space!

Decks can be big or small, with more than one level, and can have dedicated electrical for lights, fans, and more. They are a great way to add extra living space to your property and provide a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

When considering a new deck or porch, the first step is determine how much space you have to work with. In the City of Ottawa, there are zoning restrictions and provisions that apply to all lots within the City. Setbacks from property lines are put in place for certain structures, including porches and decks. These setbacks differ depending on the area you live in, and the zoning designation your property has. In some cases, a proposed deck may require a Minor Variance Application. Most decks require a building permit unless under a specific size and height. The second step would be to determine if your deck requires a building permit and if yes, to obtain drawings that are ready to submit to the City of Ottawa for a building permit. We can get this done for you or assist you if you are confident in drawing the deck yourself.
